Struggling to find the motivation to get out of the house and be more active? Getting paid for each step you take could be exactly what you need to persuade you to move.

And, if you are a sporty person always on the run, how about earning money while doing something you already do?

That’s what I call passive income, my friend.

So, no matter which type of person you are, the apps on this list can be a fun way to earn a few bucks on the side.

You can walk with your friends, family, your dog, or by yourself! You can even get paid to walk someone else’s dog!

Ready to start?

How to get paid to walk

There are plenty of apps that pay you for walking.

But I know you! You want to know which apps are worth your time.

Here’s a list of the best fifteen apps I found on the net that will let you walk for money.

1. Achievement

Achievement

BEST FOR: Earning points and getting paid as cash.

Available on iOS and Android

On Achievement, you don’t just get paid to walk. You can earn rewards for many other activities, such as running, swimming, or even meditating!

The app is compatible with over 40 health apps. These include Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin, and more! If you’re not using any of these apps, don’t worry! The app works independently, as well.

Not only can you track your daily activity, but you can also get rewards for logging your sleep, water intake, and food intake.

Achievement rewards you with up to 80 points for exercising. I like the Achievement app because you can also participate in surveys related to your health, which will increase your points.

Once you reach 10,000 points, you earn $10.

Those can be withdrawn via PayPal, redeemed via Giftrocket, or donated to charity!

The threshold is quite high, but you need to keep in mind that walking can be just a fun activity to make some extra money here and there.

How it works: Upon downloading the app, you can connect it to MyFitnessPal, Apple Health, Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin, and more. Each day, you log your daily food intake, sleep, and fitness activity and earn points for that.

How you’ll get paid: You earn $10 for 10,000 points. You can redeem your points via PayPal, Giftrocket, or you can also donate them to charity.

2. Sweatcoin

Sweatcoin

BEST FOR: Earn rewards and discounts online for free.

Available on iOS and Android

I’ve been using Sweatcoin for over 3 years to stay on top of my daily steps.

And it seems I am not the only person that loves it. With a 4+ rating on both Apple Store and Google Play, there must be a reason if over 40 million people use it worldwide!

Sweatcoing ratings on Google Play and Apple Store: rated 4+ as the best app to get paid to walk

The app rewards you with virtual tokens called Sweatcoins. Every time you take 1,000 steps, you get 0.95 Sweatcoins. Plus, with the latest version of the app, you can also count all your indoor steps. Which makes it perfect for any activity you do inside the house.

Just make sure you enable the option when you download it.

The app has its own marketplace where you can redeem your Sweatcoins for various rewards, including high-tech shoes, iPhones, yoga classes, and Apple watches.

What I also love is that you can walk while helping others. Sweatcoin has some incredible crowdfunding projects that can encourage you to stay fit while doing some good for the world. Remember, it’s not all about money!

If you think this is too good to be true, check out my Sweatcoin review!

How it works: Every time you walk, Sweatcoin will reward you .95 Sweatcoins every 1,000 steps. Earning digital currency keeps you motivated to move more while earning some fun rewards!

How you’ll get paid: You can redeem Sweatcoins for things like goods, experiences, or discounts in the app’s marketplace. Sweatcoin has the option to donate your Sweatcoins to crowdfunded charity projects. So you stay healthy and help good causes.

3. StepBet

stepbet logo

StepBet

BEST FOR: Achieving your fitness goals by putting real money on the line.

Available on iOS and Android

Are you confident in yourself? And would you bet on you?

StepBet is an interesting app, and it’s not for everyone. If you don’t like risking, and like me, you hate the thought of losing money at the casino, StepBet might not be the app for you.

It doesn’t guarantee you’ll earn anything from walking. In fact, you can even lose money.

But the fact that it’s rated over 4.6 stars on both Google and Apple store gives you an idea of how good it can be.

Once you download the app, you can connect it to your health app of choice. It’s compatible with Apple Health, Samsung Health, Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, or Google Fit.

Then, you’ll set a goal and bet on yourself. Generally, you can expect to pay around $40 per game.

You need to be hitting your goal for a period of six weeks. If you fail, it’s simple. You lose your money. If you win, you get your money back and split the prize with the other winners of the game.

How much you can earn depends on the pot size and also the number of players.

How it works: You set your step goals for the week and bet money on yourself. After six weeks of reaching your goals, you get your money back plus rewards. If you fail to reach those goals, you lose your money. The organizer sets the bet for each game, but it’s generally around $40.

How you’ll get paid: If you reach your goals, you can share the pot of money with other users who have also participated in the game and reached their goals. You can then redeem your cash via PayPal. You’ll receive the payment within 48 hours of the end of the game.

4. Million Steps

millionsteps logo

Million Steps

BEST FOR: Earning money while tracking your daily steps.

Available on iOS and Android

Ready for a challenge? How does taking one million steps sound to you?

The Million Steps app will pay you for taking one million steps!

What do you get in return? $10! Obviously, this is not a ground-breaking sum, but once again, it’s money you would not otherwise make.

In theory, if you walk 10,000 steps a day, you should be able to reach the threshold in 100 days, right? The issue is that the app caps your daily steps.

This means that after you reach 1,000 steps a day, the app stops counting.

You can increase your daily count by watching ads in the app, which can be quite time-consuming. Each ad will increase your base by 200 steps. This means you have to watch 45 ads daily to reach those full 10,000 steps.

So, you have basically two options: watch ads to increase your step base (perhaps while you’re walking) or get to the threshold slower.

Once you get to one million steps, you can redeem your $10 as cash or gift cards.

How it works: The Million Steps app sounds simple: reach one million steps, and you’ll get paid $10. The app tracks your daily steps, which means it’s also a great fitness tracker.

How you’ll get paid: Once you reach your one million steps, you can redeem $10 as cash or gift cards.

5. Rover

rover logo

Rover

BEST FOR: Making money while walking dogs.

Available on iOS and Android

Getting paid for walking dogs? Yes, please!

Rover is different from the apps we’ve talked about so far. The app doesn’t count your daily steps. Instead, you get paid for walking other people’s dogs!

There are many dog owners out there, but not all of them have enough time to care for their four-legged friends. You can help them out with that!

The good thing is that, as a dog walker, you set your own rate. On average, you can make $20 per walk. Generally, those walks are shorter than one hour long. That doesn’t sound bad, right? And considering you’ll have a dog friend by your side, the walk is going to be ten times better!

The app also allows you to apply for pet-sitting jobs. This means you can make money looking after a furry friend! You can earn up to $60 for pet-sitting a dog overnight.

I like the app because you can also specify what kind of dog you want to walk. If big dogs are not your thing, you can walk someone’s chihuahua!

How it works: All you need to do is to download the app, create a profile, and start looking for dog-walking or pet-sitting jobs.

How you’ll get paid: You set your own rate. You can earn $20 for walking someone’s dog on average. Pet-sitting can earn you up to $60. This means there’s a better earning potential than on the other apps we’ve talked about so far. But also more work to do.

6. LifeCoin

lifecoin logo

LifeCoin

BEST FOR: Earning gift cards and physical goods.

Available on iOS and Android

A free pair of Beats headphones? Why not?

LifeCoin is a great app that allows you to get paid to walk. The app uses a GPS to track your activity, which means it doesn’t work indoors. The GPS tracking can also drain your battery quite fast, so keep that in mind!

You earn 1 LifeCoin per 1,000 steps. The app has a free version that allows you to earn up to 5 LifeCoins a day. There is also a paid version where you can earn up to 10 LifeCoins daily. The paid membership costs $4.33 per month.

LifeCoin doesn’t pay you in cash. You can exchange your points for gift cards or physical goods from stores such as Amazon or LuLulemon. The items you can win change all the time.

I’ve seen Beats headphones or Apple Airpods at some point, just to give you an idea.

How it works: LifeCoin tracks your daily steps and rewards you with LifeCoins. The free version of the app allows you to make up to 5 LifeCoins a day. You can become a member by paying $4.33 per month. The paid membership allows you to earn up to 10 LifeCoins a day.

How you’ll get paid: The app won’t pay you directly. You can redeem your LifeCoins as gift cards or as physical goodies.

7. Runtopia

runtopia logo

Runtopia

BEST FOR: Get paid to exercise.

Available on iOS and Android

Perhaps walking isn’t your cup of tea. How about running?

Runtopia is a great app that pays you to exercise. In fact, the whole name of the app is Runtopia Pays You To Get Fit. Apart from that, it can also act as a great fitness tracker. It’s a GPS-based app, which means it should count your steps pretty accurately.

They have built-in programs that will help you warm up, cool down, or stretch. You can set goals for your workouts, and there’s also a voice coach that will guide you through those workouts.

The exercises you can do with Runtopia are walking, running, swimming, cycling, and more. Each time you complete an exercise, you earn Sports Coins (SPC).

You can redeem your SPC as cash, gift cards, free memberships, or sports gear.

One thing to keep in mind is that SPC expires on March 1st each year, so make sure to redeem them by that day!

How it works: You earn SPC for each exercise you complete. Those activities don’t have to be just running. You can also swim or jog. Walking counts as well!

How you’ll get paid: You can redeem your SPC as PayPal cash, coupons, free memberships, or sports gear.

8. MapMyFitness

map fitness logo

MapMyFitness

BEST FOR: Joining challenges and win Under Armour gear.

Available on iOS and Android

If you love Under Armour products, this app sounds like the best choice for you!

MapMyFitness is a collection of apps owned by Under Armour. Those apps include MapMyWalk and MapMyRun. The apps track your activities, and you earn points in return.

MapMyFitness works based on the location services function on your phone. This is pretty cool because you can see your walk or run mapped out after you finish your walk or run.

The app allows you to join challenges or create your own and invite your friends or family. This can make your workouts more fun and better motivate you.

As I mentioned, the app won’t pay you in cash, but you can win some Under Armour sports gear.

How it works: The app tracks your activities, maps them, and you earn points in return. You can join or create challenges.

How you’ll get paid: MapMyFitness won’t pay you directly. Instead, if you complete a challenge, you can earn products. Those include mainly Under Armour products, but there are prizes from other fitness-oriented companies as well.

9. PK Rewards

pk rewards

PK Rewards

BEST FOR: Achieving your fitness goals and earning prizes along the way!

Available on iOS and Android

The cool thing about PK Rewards is that it will track any exercise you like. That includes walking, running, biking, swimming, and more! Once you start your workout or walk, open the app, which will track everything for you.

You earn points for completing an exercise but can’t redeem them as cash. Instead, you can redeem them as gift cards for Nike or Amazon products or discounts on various health products.

A cool thing about the app is that PK Rewards gives you more points if you work harder that day, which can be a great motivation!

The downside of PK Rewards is that it’s not compatible with Fitbit and Garmin.

How it works: Before you exercise, turn on the app and let it run while you’re working out. At the end of your workout, turn it off. This needs to be done so the app can track your workout. You don’t have to use this app just to track your steps. You can use the app to track any exercise. For each exercise you complete, you earn points.

How you’ll get paid: PK Rewards won’t pay you cash. Instead, you can redeem your points as products from brands such as Nike or Amazon.

10. EarthMiles

earth miles logo

Available on iOS and Android

EarthMiles will be a great app for you as you can get paid for walking with discounts on health-related items!

The app tracks your activity and rewards you with EarthMiles. A great thing about this app is that the harder you work, the more points you get.

  • For 1 mile walking, you earn 1 EarthMile.
  • For 1 mile cycling, you earn 3 EarthMiles.
  • And for 1 mile running, you earn 5 EarthMiles.

One thing to keep in mind is that the discounts are quite small. Think 25% or less. The prizes are generally not from mainstream health brands but from smaller, lesser-known brands instead.

How it works: EarthMiles tracks the miles you spend by walking, cycling, or running.

How you’ll get paid: You can redeem your EarthMiles for discounts on health products, services, supplements, and other health-related items.

The step counts for each prize vary. For example, a free massage will cost you 30,000 steps, and for a free cup of coffee, you’ll have to walk around 35,000 steps.

The Yodo app has a built-in pedometer, which means it can track your physical activity no matter where you are.

With Yodo, the more you walk, the more points you get. For every 1,500 steps you take, the app rewards you with 300 points.

Some apps will cap your daily steps. Yodo won’t. It will reward you for each step you take, as long as you complete the daily goal of at least 1,500 steps.

A cool thing about the app is that you can also earn extra points for inviting your family or friends! The more points you earn, the more rewards you receive! And the more money you make!

Other ways to get paid to walk

Most of the apps I listed so far will track your steps and give you rewards, like Sweatcoin. Or pay you for activities that involve some degree of walking while you perform a task, like Rover.

But there are lots of other fun ways to get paid to walk.

Here they are:

15. Field Agent

field agent logo

Field Agent

The main purpose of the Field Agent app is to gather retail information and customer insights. You earn money by taking photos, videos and collect information about products, shoppers, and retail operations.

The app suggests you tasks to complete. Those tasks include going to stores, completing surveys, or testing products.

DoorDash Logo

DoorDash

Available on iOS and Android

DoorDash is a popular delivery service similar to Postmates. While customers are getting their goods delivered, you can make money walking!

Upon downloading the app, you’ll have to go through their approval process. Once you get approved, you’ve officially become a Dasher and are ready to start delivering.

Depending on where you live, the size of your city, and where you’re delivering to, you might want to use other means of transportation than your feet.

Any money you make with DoorDash will be deposited directly into your bank account. The deposit usually takes 2 to 3 business days to complete.

instacart logo

Instacart

BEST FOR: Getring paid to shop for others.

Available on iOS and Android

No, Instacart is not Instagram’s new shopping feature (Ha! I can be so funny when I try hard).

It’s a delivery service you can use to get paid to walk.

Instacart delivers groceries to its customers’ houses. But you don’t have to do that. You can simply walk around the store’s aisles, collecting groceries on the customer’s shopping list.

So, if you like roaming around grocery stores, why not make a few bucks while doing that?

You also have a second option: to deliver the groceries to the customer’s house. But you’ll need a vehicle for that!

To become an Instacart shopper, you’ll need to register on their website. Instacart will perform a background check on you. If everything is alright, you’ll get approved within two weeks.

The great thing is that you can set your own hours so you can work around your schedule.

Your money will be deposited directly into your bank account.

How it works: You get paid for delivering groceries. You can either deliver groceries to customers’ houses (but you would need a car for that). Or, you can simply walk around the store collecting items on the customers’ shopping list and get paid!

You can work whenever you want. But obviously, the more time you put in, the more money you’ll earn. You get paid for each favor you complete. Typically, you can expect to earn anywhere between $10 to $18 per favor plus tips.

The tasks you can complete are mostly:

  • Cleaning
  • Delivery
  • Handyman
  • Gardening

But keep in mind that there are lots of other tasks as well!

In the app, you can bid on the tasks you’d like to complete. The person who posted the task will review the bidders and select one of them. If you are selected, you’ll receive the money 2 to 5 business days after completing the task.

One downside is that Airtasker keeps 22% of your earnings.

How it works: Upon downloading the app, you become a Tasker, and you can start browsing the tasks somebody needs some help with.

20. Carrot 2.0 (Canada)

carrot logo

Carrot 2.0 (Canada)

BEST FOR: Getting rewards for completing challenges.

Available on iOS and Android

Carrot was a popular Canadian app that rewarded you for walking. But it stopped functioning in 2019. Well, it’s back!

The Carrot app rewards you for completing challenges. Once you first join the app, Carrot will take a few days to evaluate your walking habits. This usually takes about a week. After a week, it will determine a step goal for you.

You earn points for accomplishing the challenges the app sets you. Those are mostly daily challenges, but you can also earn some extra points for completing challenges several times in a row.

You can increase your points by filling out surveys related to your health.

What can you earn on Carrot? The rewards range from gift cards, free movie tickets or even free airplane miles!

21. BetterPoints (UK and Europe)

Just keep in mind that BetterPoints is only available to those based in the UK, Italy, France, and Poland.

For every 1,000 points, you earn £1. This is roughly $1.29. You can exchange your points for gift cards. All gift cards offered by the app are valid only in the countries where the app is available. You also have the option to donate your earnings to charity!

How it works: The app tracks your walking and physical activity. When you join the app, you select a challenge. Upon achieving that challenge, BetterPoints rewards you with points.

F.A.Q.

Can I actually get paid for walking?

Yes, you absolutely can. Just don’t expect this to replace your job.

These apps will help you earn a few dollars here and there. It also depends on the type of app you download. As you can see, some apps will earn you money, and some will earn you other rewards such as discounts in your favorite stores.

Then, some apps won’t pay you directly for walking. Instead, you’ll get paid for completing tasks that require you to walk. This type of apps will help you to make more. But yes, you can get paid for walking.

Is there an app that pays you to walk?

Absolutely!

All the apps listed in this article either pay you in cash or give you rewards.

If you have a job that requires you to move around or want an incentive to go out for a daily walk, you can earn extra money while you do so!

What are some creative ways to walk for money?

I feel like all of the apps I’ve talked about are pretty creative when it comes to making money walking.

Each of them works a bit differently, so you’ll have some variety to choose from.

For instance, Sweatcoin tracks your steps and pays you for that. StepBet lets you set a goal and bid on yourself. With Sidewalk, you create a guided tour around your area and get paid to walk that way.

And then there are apps such as Instacart that will pay you for delivering groceries to customers’ houses.

Get paid to walk is just a fun way to make some extra cash!

Ready to get walking?

Remember: these apps are just a great way to motivate you to be more active while earning some pocket money.

And while even less than 10,000 steps a day can keep you healthy, I find that walking outside for 1 hour a day improves my mood and keeps me motivated.

So let’s get walking together. And while we do, we can earn some extra cash and rewards on the side!

Have you tried any of these apps?

  1. Can you install multiple apps and get credit for one session across multiple apps?

    1. Hey Marco, you should be able to. It will depends on the app. Some run in the background and you can use several at the same time. Others might need you to use just once at a time.

  2. Gonna be giving a couple a try with no confidence. Right off the bat I can tell you sweatcoin doesnt actually pay anything. It’ll give you “deals” but they’ll always somehow be sold out, even if they just refreshed.

  3. I haven’t tried any of the apps but I would like to try one of these apps
