1. Bruges, Belgium

Bruges (Brugge) cityscape with water canal, Flanders, Belgium

Bruges is a fairy-tale medieval town, and with its lovely squares, picturesque canals, and cobblestone streets, it really is one of the most romantic cities in old Europe!

With its dreamy canals crossing the city center, Bruges has been called the “Venice of the North”.

We visited Bruges last summer, and we loved every minute!

Check out my guide to the perfect weekend in Bruges for the best tips!

One of my favorite experiences in Bruges was taking a stroll through the city’s picturesque streets and alleys.

The medieval architecture is incredibly well-preserved, and you can’t help but feel transported to another time as you wander through its cute streets.

During your walk, don’t forget to head down to Markt Square, the heart of the city. The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, and it’s the perfect place to grab a coffee or a Belgian waffle and soak up the atmosphere.

I highly recommend visiting the square at night when it’s lit up, creating an even more magical and romantic ambiance.

When we took the drive along the Pacific Coast Highway for the first time, I couldn’t believe how beautiful this place was.

This 90-mile-long stretch of highway between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle is one of the world’s most unforgettable coastlines on earth.

12. Chasing Northern Lights, Iceland

Beautiful waterfalls in Iceland

Iceland is a destination that’s truly magical, especially if you’re lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights. It’s one of the best countries in the world to experience this breathtaking natural event, and it’s an experience that you’ll never forget.

The best time to experience the Northern Lights in Iceland is during the colder months, between November and January. But before you head out to witness this incredible natural phenomenon, make sure to dress warmly! You won’t enjoy your Northern Lights experience if you’re shivering and cold.

Iceland is also a destination that offers plenty of opportunities for adventure and exploration. Go walking on a glacier (with a guide, please – as it can be dangerous), take a dip in the Blue Lagoon, or go whale watching to discover the incredible wildlife that inhabits the surrounding waters.

Overall, Iceland is a destination that will leave you feeling awed, inspired, and a little bit chilly! But, with the right gear and an open mind, it’s an experience that you’ll never forget!

13. Marrakesh, Morocco

A beautiful garden in Marrakech

The vibrant city of Marrakesh might not be the first place that comes to mind as a romantic destination.

But the old medina, with its winding streets, colorful markets, and traditional riads, is the perfect place for a romantic escape.

The most romantic thing to do in Marrakesh is to enjoy a traditional Moroccan bath together at a hammam.

These traditional spas have been around for centuries and are the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate.

Many hammams offer private rooms where couples can enjoy luxurious treatments together, including couples massages and other spa treatments that will pamper and soothe both of you in a truly romantic setting.

Marrakesh also offers many beautiful gardens to escape the hustle of the city. Some of my favorites are Le Jardin Secret, where you can sit mint tea while relaxing in a beautiful setting, and the Majorelle garden (remember to book online in advance).

With a unique blend of cultures, Marrakesh truly deserves a spot on the list of the most romantic places to visit!

14. Zanzibar, Tanzania

A white beach in Zanzibar, Tanzania

This incredible island, located off the coast of Tanzania, is known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and diverse marine life.

It truly is one of the most romantic places Dan and I ever visited.

As soon as you step onto the island, you’ll feel the hustle and bustle of the real world melt away.

Take a romantic stroll on one of the many beautiful white beaches, such as Kendwa or Nungwi.

The island also offers many romantic activities, such as snorkeling and scuba diving. Take a dip into the crystal clear waters, and marvel at the vibrant coral reefs and schools of tropical fish swimming around you.

Also, don’t forget to visit The Rock restaurant. If I have to be completely honest, the food is just ok, But the location on a tiny rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean is out of this world. When the tide is low, you can walk there. But as soon as the tide rises, you’ll need to be escorted back to land by a boat.

So special!
