YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO WRITE THESE DOWN!
Jordan is an amazing country and these are just the top highlights you cannot miss!
Petra clearly is one of the wonders of the world. It’s a place we always wanted to visit in Jordan, and it has to be said, it doesn’t disappoint!
Petra means “rock” in Greek, and it’s easy to see where the city got its name from. Amazing buildings have been excavated from the mountains surrounding it, more than 2 000 years ago.
The colour of the sandstone in the Red Rose City and the heat of the desert will follow you and will leave an impression that is hard to forget.
2| Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is a place out of this world, with enormous mountains soaring from the desert floor.
The best way to visit Wadi Rum is by taking a thrilling safari in a 4×4 vehicle. You could also enjoy the views from horseback, or take a ride on one of the many camels that wander around the desert.
We strongly suggest you spend the night in one of the Bedouin camps, enjoying their food cooked on the open fire, and drinking tea while watching the stars.
Sleeping in the desert is an unforgettable experience!
Amman is one of the oldest capitals in the world and it definitely deserves a visit during your stay in Jordan. Highlights include its Roman theatre and the Citadel, from which you will see breath-taking views of the city. You will also find Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad ruins to explore.
One thing you might not expect from a city with so much history is the variety of trendy cafes and restaurants that are redefining its roots.
4| Dead Sea
There is nothing like the weird sensation of floating in the salty waters of the Dead Sea, after covering yourself in the mineral-rich mud at the lowest point on Earth.
At 400m below sea level, this unique lake with its deep blue water feels almost like oil on your skin. The effect of the mud combined with the salt will make your skin feel truly amazing. Move slowly, and avoid getting any water in your mouth or eyes. Believe me, you don’t want to try! Make sure to rinse off all the salt as soon as you get out, using one of the many outdoor shower facilities.
5| King’s Highway
The King’s Highway is a 5,000-year old trading route which runs through Jordan’s countryside with some breath-taking views. Some of the stops include Crusader castles, Byzantine churches, and the spectacular Dana Nature Reserve.
If you want to see it at its best, rent a car from Amman on your way to Petra, and stop along some of the sites, like we did!
